Pleasure Tip: Do The Dishes The Pleasurelit Way
The dishes need to be done anyway. So why not make them pleasurable. This Pleasure Tip turns something ordinary into a portal to your pleasure. Might also save you the arguments with your partner.

The dishes need to be done anyway. And its rarely anyone’s favourite job. Ask most couples and you will find some version of the same argument. Whose turn is it. Why hasn’t he done it yet. Why does it always land on me. I lived that argument too.
In 2011 my best friend said something to me that her grandma used to say to her. “The dishes need to be done anyway. So instead of waiting for someone else to finally do them, just do them. But do them on your terms. Do them when you feel up for it, and do them in a way you are actually okay with.”
It stuck with me ever since. When I was just about to bring this topic to another argument, I just stopped myself and gave myself permission to do them on my terms. At first I didnt like it, as it was obviously falling all on me. However, I then asked myself: How can I actually enjoy doing the dishes? That’s when I learnt to turn an ordinary task into something pleasurable.

"I believe the more we expand our capacity for pleasure, and the more we care for our body, the more deeply in love with ourselves and life we can feel."
I’m Pleasurelit Patricia, Somatic Pleasure & Health Educator and Coach
After growing up as the good girl, becoming a high achiever and later leaving a DV marriage, I became fascinated by what helps us fall in love with ourselves and life. I have explored hundreds of somatic practices and pleasure tools, alongside more than 20 certifications and years of study across health, nutrition, fitness, somatics, yoga, breathwork, tantra and sexuality.
Through my programs, courses, coaching, and community, I help you build a pleasurable and healthy relationship with your body, so you can feel deliciously in love with yourself and life itself, especially when disconnected or moving through a changing season of life such as perimenopause.
I’m the founder of Pleasurelit®, bestselling author of The Pleasurelit Way, and host of Pleasurelit with Patricia, a top 5% globally ranked podcast. My work has also been recognised with industry awards for my contribution as a pleasure educator and coach in 2024.
The Practice
Making something pleasurable comes down to being fully present in it. That means dropping into your senses and using breath, movement, sound and touch.
When I do the dishes now, I put music on, something that pulls me into my body straight away, its usually a 90’s to 00’s playlist. I feel the water on my skin. I feel the bubbles. I pick up the towel and swing it, slap it against my hip, sing along, move my body. I let myself get loud. I let myself enjoy it. So much so that even my kids seem to be interested in doing the dishes.
If scent is a dominant sense for you, you can use a soap you love, an essential oil nearby. Anything that helps you to connect with your body.
From Slow Down to Pleasure
A lot of nervous system advice tells you to slow everything down. And as much as this helps to get out of the survival state, it isn’t it yet. Doing the dishes slowly can be boring. Pleasure, however, turns a task from something you are rushing through into something you are actually enjoying. Yes, it might take five or ten minutes longer. It’s also so much more enjoyable than getting it over with as fast as possible, especially when you are a high achieving woman who is used to ticking boxes, I used to be her.
So next time you are at the sink, turn it into an experience you can FEEL.
This works for almost any ordinary task, such as folding laundry, cooking, cleaning the house.
With love & pleasure,
Patricia
