How women can use pleasure to sleep better
How women can use pleasure to sleep better. Learn how to improve your bedtime routine, regulate your nervous system, and truly rest overnight - even bring pleasure into your dreams.
Patricia P
There was a period in my life where I had completely abandoned my sleep.
Not intentionally. I did not decide one day to stop taking care of myself at night. It happened the way it always does for high-functioning women. Slowly, one small compromise at a time, until I was lying down exhausted every night and my mind was already running the next day.
Should have done this. Could have done that better. Just quickly write that down.
Sometimes I got back up. Sometimes I just lay there cycling through it all until I collapsed into something that was more shutdown than rest. And then I would wake at 2am still thinking. And by morning I was straight into doing before I had taken a single moment for myself.
I thought I was managing. I thought if I just stayed on top of everything it would eventually feel like enough.
It never did.
This is one of those episodes I recorded feeling genuinely content and grounded, and I think you will feel that. Pour yourself something warm, find somewhere comfortable, and come listen.
Podcast Episode
You are functioning, but you are not feeling…
You hold it all together - your life, career, motherhood, relationships. You keep pushing, managing, and people pleasing. A life on autopilot. Underneath all of it, you ask yourself: is this really it? Your mind rarely stops, you move from one thing to another, rest makes you uncomfortable. Your sleep is broken, your digestion is off, and your mood is unpredictable. Your nervous system is stuck in a survival state. Your body has forgotten how to feel safe, how to soften, to receive, and how to feel good.
What is missing isn't more effort. What is missing is somatic pleasure.
I'm Patricia. I was the good girl, the caretaker, the independent one who looked fine from the outside. I survived abuse, an ED, and a DV marriage. I functioned without actually feeling anything. The shift came when I stopped trying to understand my patterns and started reconnecting to my body. Somatic pleasure changed everything - in my life, motherhood, business, and relationships.
I am the founder of Pleasurelit®, the bestselling author of The Pleasurelit Way, host of the top 5% global podcast Pleasurelit with Patricia and an award winning pleasure explorer and educator. What I did not understand then was that my sleep was not a productivity problem. It was my nervous system telling me exactly what it was running on. And for a high-functioning woman, that is almost always survival.
The perfectionist. The good girl. The strong one. The one who learnt early that doing and pushing and being useful was how you stayed safe. That pattern does not clock off at bedtime. Your nervous system does not know it is allowed to rest. So you lie there wired and exhausted at the same time, wondering what is wrong with you.
Nothing is wrong with you. You just have not been taught to make sleep pleasurable. There is a difference between sleeping and sleeping as a Pleasurelit Woman. A significant one.
In this episode I share what that period really cost me, how I found my way back, and what my sleep actually looks like now. The tools, the rituals, the bedroom setup, and the part that might surprise you about what becomes possible when you arrive at sleep already in your body… pleasure in your sleep…
Including something I talk about openly because it is real and it is worth knowing.
